Poinsettia Process and Care
With a little TLC, poinsettias can last for months after bringing them home. Some dedicated gardeners are even able to keep them healthy to rebloom for a second holiday season. Poinsettias are tropical plants that should be kept above 50 degrees fahrenheit. They should be kept in the warm inner cavity of your vehicle as you transport it to their next location. Keeping it in the trunk or on the back of a truck could kill the poinsettia or greatly damage it. In your home or business, put the poinsettia in a well lit area away from both cold drafts and heating vents. Water the poinsettia when the pot becomes lightweight, about once a week. Water the plant thoroughly in a sink, letting it drain well before putting it back in its previous position. If the poinsettia is wrapped in foil, tilt the plant, being careful to hold the rootball, and pour the excess water in the sink. By following these steps, your poinsettias will be happy, healthy and outlast the holiday season.
