Over this past season, we grew and celebrated poinsettias and shared the wonderful colors with our community. From November 28 to December 8th, 2025, we welcomed voters to our Poinsettia Trials and asked for votes on the best looking plants and we appreciate all of the support.
We grew over 12,000 poinsettias, each carefully grown to showcase 77 diverse varieties. Each variety was presented to voters with three labeled plants in our display. We invited all visitors, customers, and employees to engage in judging.
Our judging process was simple yet inclusive. Participants were invited to evaluate each variety across four categories: red, white, pink, and novelty. The top five favorites in each category were recorded, with votes counted manually. We also included a fill-in section for three overall favorites.
We had 218 ballots submitted this year. Each first-place vote carried five points, second place four, and so on, allowing us to rank the top five favorites precisely. For the top overall, each first-place vote carried three points, second place two, and third place one point, allowing us to rank the top three overall favorites precisely.
Our initial call for voting reached far and wide, reaching the pages of the Weekly Independent, The Stokes News, Mount Airy News, Surry Scene, Carroll County News, Clemmons Courier, and Yadkin Valley Living Magazine. We had Fox8 come out this year to cover the event, and we have a segment with NC Weekend playing on PBS/UNC TV channels this week. Our eNewsletter reached loyal customers, ensuring that no one missed the exciting display and open house dates.
The poinsettia trials are about recognizing the beauty in diversity, finding the joy in participation, and the strength in collective decision-making. We have learned that when you invite your community to be part of something, magic happens. We saw creativity in the novelty category, tradition in the red, winter whites, and bright pinks. Each vote is a piece of a larger story that celebrates not just poinsettias, but the people who breed them. Your feedback is the fertilizer that helps the plants grow into a mix of colors.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
