Mitchell’s Poinsettia Voting Results

This year, Mitchell’s Nursery & Greenhouse has grown over 12,000 poinsettias in 96 varieties. A survey of our varieties was taken at our greenhouse, which took place from November 27th to December 10th, 2021. Customers came in to see all the gorgeous poinsettias and holiday plants we had to offer and vote on their favorites!  Three plants of every variety were displayed for voting and fell into 1 of 4 categories- red, novelty, white and pink. The top five favorites in each category were voted for. This year we also had a fill in section for people to write in their 3 favorites over all.  We ran ads for our poinsettias in the Winston-Salem Journal, Weekly Independent, The Stokes News, Mount Airy News, The Pilot, Yadkin Ripple, Clemmons Courier, and Yadkin Valley Living Magazine. We also wrote an article on ‘Pretty with Poinsettias’ for the Yadkin Valley Living about different varieties with photos included.  Spectrum TV of the Triad came out to film a segment which was broadcast across the state. The Winston Salem Journal also popped in to cover our poinsettias, which were featured in the newspaper Friday, December 10th of this year. PBS North Carolina Weekend visited the nursery in 2019, and airs our segment every year around the Holidays. We announced our Voting Event via our e- newsletter Mitchell’s Great Gardeners and to our social media, which in total reaches about 10,000 people. We advertised our Poinsettia Voting to almost 7,000 customers that signed up for our e-newsletter. To calculate the winning poinsettias,  I gave each 1st place vote 5 points, 2nd place 4 points, 3rd place 3 points, 4th place 2 points, and 5th place 1 point.
